Gearing up for the July 4th Celebration

It’s that time of year again. The red, white, and blue bunting is going up on businesses and homes all over town. The fireworks tents seem to be popping up out of nowhere. Flip flops, frozen treats, and the aquatic center are part of nearly every Columbus kid’s daily routine. We’re known for our enthusiasm for Independence Day here in Columbus, and for good reason! The carnival, bands, and 4th of July parade here are second to none year after year here, and this one’s going to be no different!
Our five-day celebration kicks off with something for the kids – a princess party in the historic and beautiful Fireman’s Park Pavilion on Tuesday night, followed by a showing of the movie Moana. Mr. Ed’s Magical Midway will be open the following day at 5 with food (hello funnel cakes!!), games, rides, and FUN through Saturday evening.
Thursday the 4th will be a busy, joyful day. The Firecracker 5 run/walk starts early, followed at noon by the parade. After the parade there’s bingo in the pavilion, and, of course, the carnival, food, and music. If you take a break from the festivities in the afternoon, be sure to make it back to Fireman’s Park for the fireworks! They’re the area’s biggest show, and people come from miles around. Get there early and lay out your blanket or chairs!
The good times don’t stop after the 4th is over. Friday night and Saturday are still hopping with music! New this year on Saturday, the festival expands downtown to the senior center with two afternoon concerts – Jesse Walker and Randy Kiel. And of course, Cherry Pie will be at Fireman’s Park for the grand finale performance on Saturday night!
